Functional Molecules from
Natural Sources

6-8 July 2009

Magdalen College, Oxford

FIRST CIRCULAR available - see below

Organised by RSC Biotechnology Group

Naturally-occurring compounds have been, and continue to be, an important source of new leads and commercially successful products for various industrial sectors, notably pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.  The last decade has, however, seen many challenges as well as new opportunities for the industrial utilization of molecules from natural sources, including the birth of 'nutraceuticals' and 'cosmeceuticals'.

This conference follows two earlier successful meetings organised by the Biotechnology Group at the University of Sussex in 1996 and at the University of St Andrews in 1999 and aims to highlight current trends, challenges and successes in the exploitation of natural products.

Programme includes:

Dwight Baker (Cubist, USA)
Sir Jack Baldwin (Oxford, UK)
Gerhard Bringmann (Würzburg, Germany)
Tony Buss (MerLion, Singapore)
John Casey (Unilever Life Science, UK)
Guy Carter (Wyeth, USA)
John Clough (Syngenta, UK)
Peter Leadlay (Cambridge, UK)
Andrew Mearns Spragg (Aquapharm, UK)
Jason Micklefield (Manchester, UK)
Robert Nash (Summit Wales Ltd, UK)
David Newman (National Cancer Institute, USA)
Neville Nicholson (GlaxoSmithKline, UK)
John Pickett (Rothamsted Research, UK)
