The second in a series organised by the Formulation Science and Technology Group of the RSC, this meeting will examine recent progress in the use of high throughput methods for formulation development. Unlike the use of high throughput methods in compound discovery and early pharmacology, mechanisation of formulation requires that an extremely wide range of physical processes be integrated. The task of the formulator is constantly changing between projects, so that equipment and informatics must be extremely flexible. Against this landscape, progress in high throughput formulation has been slow. Since the last HTFS conference, there has been considerable activity from suppliers and users and new instruments have appeared on the market. The most recent applications of HTT and the challenges still to be met will be discussed.
